If you’ll be in Japan during golden week and wouldn’t mind spending a few days at a Zen temple in the countryside, you might be interested in a retreat we’ll be holding at Tokei-in temple in Shizuoka from April 30 to May 2. The retreat is suitable for beginners, and anyone interested is welcome along. There’s some more information about the retreat here.

  3. Hi Peter,

I'd love to attend, but alas, my practice nowadays entails dirty nappies and being puked on regularly. I'll get to join you folks on a sesshin some time in the future I'm sure. I hope you have an excellent retreat.

    Damien.

  5. Hi Damien,

It sounds like you're involved in important practice at the moment.

We had a nice retreat. It rained on the Sunday, but it didn't interfere with the zazen, and I think people enjoyed the sound of the rain on the roof. There were a lot of singing birds around the place too, so some nice sounds in the zendo.

I hope the new arrival is doing well, and ye're all enjoying golden week.

    Peter

  6. Ah, the sound of rain on a zendo roof. We often hear it at Keishoin where it runs down pipes in torrents and it sounds like the zendo will fill with water.
I'm glad you had a good sesshin. I'll be at the uni zendo tomorrow for the monthly zazenkai. It's nice to sit with people sometimes. I look forward to the day when I can travel up to sit with you in Tokei-in.

    Best,
    D.
